No More Procrastinating

Never put off tomorrow what can be done today. Well, today your mother-in-law can watch the kids so you and your husband can have a much needed date night that includes cocktails, a romantic dinner and no sippy cups or diaper changes. Tomorrow is as good a time as any to get those dishes done, right? If it’s just dishes, yes. Unless you’re obsessive compulsive and cannot leave the house when anything is out of place or dirty in any way (guilty) but no one is that uncool, right? Procrastination has its place, and most of the time you shouldn’t do it, which means no more procrastinating in a sense. Here are a few tips to help you stop the procrastination.

Do the Hard Stuff First

Okay, so this isn’t exactly inspiring, I know. But you have only so much energy and by a certain point in the day (10 am…) you are already mentally checked out and at home making a margarita. You wish. However, if you do the tough stuff first you will be more likely to finish the not-so-tough stuff afterward, and you’ll feel better knowing that it’s out of the way and you don’t have to bother with it.

Re-Start the Day at 2

You never feel more energized or ready to tackle the day than you do after a cup of coffee and the news first thing in the morning. By 2 pm your body is wearing down and you are less productive. Use this time to take a break and re-start your day. Make yourself a cup of coffee and catch up on the news. When you are finished you still have the rest of the day to tackle new projects and be productive again.

Give Yourself an Audience

When you only have to worry about disappointing yourself by not getting something accomplished today, you don’t care that much. When someone else knows you are trying to get something done by the end of the day, it makes it more embarrassing for you when you don’t. Positive pressure makes it easier for you to stop procrastinating and start getting things done.
