Save Vs. Splurge: Kitchen Items You Should Always Pay More For

When you have people over to your home, or just your family for that matter, where does everyone go? It’s the kitchen, right? I cannot tell you how much time we spend in our kitchen for people who don’t cook much. It seems that everyone is drawn to the space, and that’s why we chose this house. It’s got an entertaining kitchen and we love it. It’s inarguably the most important room in any home, and that means we have to make decisions when it comes to buying items that tend to live in the kitchen. When I recently bought a block of new knives, my husband was appalled that they weren’t a specific type (because all knives are not created equal, apparently). It led us into a deep discussion over which kitchen items are worth spending more on for investment purposes. If you are going to spend more on certain kitchen items, make them the following.

Knives

Quality knives are worth every cent you will pay to buy them. They are relied upon quite heavily in the kitchen, though you don’t necessarily need a dozen different knives. Forged knives last longer, hold up better and really do hold their value over time.

Mixers

If you bake a lot, a mixer is worth every penny you will pay for it. There is nothing like a cheap mixer to make baking more complicated than it needs to be. If you want to splurge on anything, make it a mixer. If you really want a personal recommendation, I have a KitchenAid Stand Mixer and it is everything. It’s also the same mixer my mother and my grandmother use, and everyone recommends it.

Thermometer

I learned the difficult way with my first every turkey that a good meat thermometer is more important than most anything else during the holidays. All meat should be cooked to perfection, especially if you are like us and you don’t cook often but when you do, it’s expensive meat.
