Travel Insurance – Is It Okay to Save Money and Travel Without It?
Knowing how expensive health care is, I can’t believe how people travel without travel insurance. I’ve heard people say that they are healthy and don’t need it. Or it is too expensive and they could barely afford their trip to begin with. But think about it – when you are on vacation you are probably out doing a lot more things than when you are at home, and that puts you at a higher risk of being injured or having an accident. Do you think it is okay to save money and travel without travel insurance? Let’s talk about what could happen if you travel without insurance.
First of all most of us go on vacation because we want to have fun, relax, and forget about all the work and stress that we are dealing with at home. But a vacation without travel insurance can quickly turn into a difficult and very stressful time if something should go wrong.
Examples of What Could Go Wrong While on Vacation
You go hiking and slip, fall and break your leg.
You go water skiing and you collide with someone else and get injured badly enough that you need to be taken to the nearest hospital.
You drink the water in a foreign country and get so sick that you need the care of a doctor.
You eat something at a restaurant and wake up in the middle of the night with food poisoning and need a doctor.
You are in an accident and need to be air-lifted by air ambulance helicopter to a hospital for treatment.
You suffer a sudden heart attack and spend a week or more in the local hospital.
Worst of all, you die suddenly and need to be transported home to your family.
Of course no one wants any of the above things to ever happen to them and nine times out of ten nothing will happen. But what about when it does? If you don’t have travel insurance to cover the associated costs how will you ever pay for the 10 or 20 or 50 thousand dollar bill that you will receive? Worse yet, if you die, how will your spouse, family member or friend that is traveling with you, pay to get you home?
Next time you book a trip, buy travel insurance and save yourself the grief.
