What Your Bartender Doesn’t Tell You

Now that summer is coming to a close and football season is about to start you will probably find yourself spending more time in bars and lounges with your girlfriends or your guy watching games. If you plan on spending your fall doing this, you need to know what it is that your bartender is not telling you. Knowing these things will help you have a better experience and a lot more fun.

Don’t Yell or Whistle

If you want service, don’t yell, whistle, or wave your money in the air. Make eye contact and smile at the bartender and he will get right with you. Do any of the former and he will make you wait. Additionally, know what you want, or at least what you want to ask when he approaches so that you don’t hold up the rest of the place.

Start a Tab

The bartender has paperwork to file at the end of the night. If you decline to start a tab and then order drinks four or five times, you are making the bartender stay hours later than he has to. Start a tab.

Order Correctly

Bartenders hate when people ask them to make their drinks strong, but then refuse to order a double. If you want your drink strong, order and pay for a double; it’s the way the bar works.

Don’t Munch on the Garnishes

Not all bars and restaurants do this, but some do. Those garnishes that sit in those little containers at the edge of the bar often stay there until they are gone. That might mean that the cherry you are eating out of your martini might have been there since Monday. That’s not good to know on Saturday.

He’s Cutting You Off For a Reason

If the bartender cuts you off, it’s not because he doesn’t like you. Actually, he probably doesn’t like you because you acted like enough of an idiot to have to make him stop what he’s doing and stop serving you, so maybe it is because he doesn’t like you.
