Five Ways to Do Less But Get More Done At Work

The world would be a much happier place if we could all do less and accomplish more in the office. It sounds impossible, but you might be pleasantly surprised to learn that it’s entirely possible to do just that. You can actually do less, but get more done at the office (and at home if you take these rules and apply them to that lifestyle as well). Here are a few simple tips to change your life.

Skip Meetings

There are always meetings and some of them simply are not important. Don’t attend a meeting that isn’t required, related to something you need to know or do, or that doesn’t have anything important o add to your day. Skip it, and get more done in your office.

Check Mail Less Frequently

If you change the settings on your phone so that your email notifications will only alert you at specific times throughout the day, you’re doing to accomplish a lot more. By not responding to every email the second it comes through, you’re staying focused on other tasks and accomplishing more.

Delegate

You can do the hard work and delegate the easy stuff to others. For example, if you’re in the midst of a proposal, let someone else do the research and make the proposal look nice in binders or emails or whatnot. You can delegate to assistants to save you time and let you do more at work.

No More Distractions

Put your cell phone away. Do not stop what you’re doing to check text messages and social media alerts. The more often you do this, the less you accomplish at work.  If you can’t put your phone away, at least put those notifications on silent or hide the icons on a second page so you don’t see them.

Practice Saying No

Sometimes you don’t have time to get things done that aren’t already on your to-do list, and it’s okay to say no. Pick your battles. Say no to happy hour and get more done at work. Say no to enjoying a big lunch or to taking on someone else’s work as a favor. Say no and you’ll be much happier and much more productive.
