Increase Your Home’s Curb Appeal on the Cheap

The first thing anyone notices about your home is the exterior. It does not matter in the least how nice the interior of your home really is if the exterior looks bad, and that’s a problem that many of us have to deal with on many occasions. Curb appeal is so important, but there is a misconception that it takes a massive green thumb or a lot of money and a professional to get your house and lawn looking good from the outside. The truth is that you can actually handle your own curb appeal, and you can do it for next to nothing. We have a few simple pieces of advice that will transform your home from drab to fab without breaking the bank and without professional help.

Paint with “Whoops” Paint

How many times have you been to the local hardware or paint store and noticed that someone incorrectly mixed paint and the customer was not happy with it? Ask where you can find the whoops paint, since many stores sell it for as much as 75% of the retail price. Sometimes it’s just the wrong shade, but does it really matter which kind of red it is if you’re just repainting a front door to add a bit of curb appeal?

Call a local tree company for free mulch

Did you know that tree trimming services have an excessive amount of mulch and wood chips that they have nothing to do with? This happens by shoving the trees they clear into their big machines and chopping them up. They have to find a way to get rid of those wood chips, and they’re often very happy to give them away to anyone willing to come get them for no charge at all. This means you can do a little bit of landscaping for nothing.

Update your light fixtures

When we bought our dream house recently, one of the things we knew needed replacement right away were the horrible gold trimmed light fixtures on either side of the garage door, on the back wall of the house along the deck, on the front of the house and the big light pole that is in the ground in front of our walkway. We have a big, country-style house with beautiful dormers, hardy board siding and a wraparound porch that turns into a big wooden deck in the back. This house called for a completely different look with light fixtures, and boy were they expensive. We had no idea that floor models are actually sold at most major home improvement stores for a shocking 50% to 75% discount. But now you know, so good luck.
