Three Ways to Take Control of Your Finances

Finances

Like the rest of the world there comes a time when you tire of hearing experts tell you what not to do with your finances. It’s easy to tell someone what not to do, how not to do things and what not to say or be or do or see or think. However, people forget that sometimes it’s simpler to merely tell people exactly what to do rather than what not to do, especially when it comes to finances. If you’re looking to improve your finances this year, do as those who are financially savvy do.

Check Your Statements

Do not let a statement go by that you do not check. Those with the best financial sense check every bank statement, credit card statement and even utility bill. You never know when something is incorrect and potentially costing far more than it should. You don’t want to spend months paying a higher interest rate on your credit card statement because your company made a mistake and accidentally entered the wrong rate. You want to check every statement that comes through the door for discrepancies and fix them immediately.

Buy on Sale

There are always things you’ll have to pay full price to own, but for the most part you need to buy when things are on sale. You know when your supermarket has your most purchased items on sale, so buy them then. You know that those shoes you’re eyeing right now will go on sale eventually; ask the sales associate to give you a call when they do and pick them up then. It’s a lot easier than you think it is.

Ignore Peer Pressure

Financial peer pressure is everywhere. It’s people who buy things they can’t afford to impress people that don’t even care. Don’t give in to this. Trust me, people are far more concerned with what they have than with what you have. Ignore the peer pressure and don’t give in to spending money you don’t have or can’t afford to buy things you don’t need to impress people who don’t matter.
