Will More Money Make You Happier?

If you were to ask everyone you know whether or not they think they’d be happier with more money, I’m willing to be the resounding answer would be one big, “HELL YES”. Let’s face it, money is not the bad thing so many people make it out to be, as long as you have realistic views of it and understand that it is not what life is all about. However, that said, I still believe that offering people more money would have them thinking they’d be happier; so what would you say if I told you that spending the money you have now wisely would make you just as happy as a big pay increase? According to experts, once your income reaches $75,000 per year additional funds don’t make a difference in your daily happiness.

Spend on Friends

Okay, so we’re not telling you to lend all your money to your loved ones, but research does show that the majority of people are happiest when they are spending time with friends. This means that if you spend your extra funds going out to dinner or drinks with the girls, taking memorable vacations with your loved ones or perusing the antiques with your girlfriends, you’re going to be just as happy as you would be if you had additional income.

Experiences

A new car that costs you so much you cannot even afford to splurge on a good bottle of wine is not going to make you happy. It might make you look good and enjoy traffic a little more, but it’s not going to make you happy. Experts recommend spending your extra funds on experiences instead of material things. For example, spending your funds on a great family vacation is going to make you much richer and much happier than spending it on a new camera or a new car.

Use Cash

It doesn’t matter how much money you have, using cash always makes people feel better than using plastic. When you pay with cash it gives you a sense of accomplishment and pride. It doesn’t matter if you have more money or if you have less money, paying for things with the money you earned is pretty satisfying.
