Eating out is something we all do on a fairly regular basis with much enjoyment. However, eating out while on a diet is always less than enjoyable. Everything on the menu suddenly seems to have double the calories or half the taste – sounds delicious, right? Fortunately, you needn’t deprive yourself of having something great while eating out on a diet. There are plenty of things you can do to make your favorite dish a little more diet-friendly.

Skip Fried Foods

If possible, ask for the grilled version of your favorite meal. For example, if you like chicken salad, ask for the grilled chicken salad instead of the fried chicken on top. Go for fish that’s grilled or broiled and chicken dishes from the grill or oven. You’ll still get to have the same dish, but you’ll just get to enjoy it without the guilt of consuming all those unhealthy calories in the process.

No Cheese or Bread Crumbs

Salads are healthy, but they’re easily made unhealthy; especially when you’re out. If you’re going to order a salad while eating out, make sure you do it the right way. Ask the waiter to hold the cheese and not to add croutons or bread crumbs to your meal. Additionally, ask for your dressing on the side so you can control how much you’re consuming. Even better, ask for a healthy dressing such as a balsamic vinaigrette rather than an unhealthy ranch.

No Starch

The best option for any meal when you’re eating out is to double your vegetables and eliminate the starch. This includes skipping the bread before your meal arrives. Instead of ordering a potato or fries as a side, order twice the veggies. This can save you hundreds of calories for just one dish; making your favorite dish healthier than ever.
