The Best Uses for Toothpaste Other Than Brushing Your Teeth

best toothpaste

In my house the best toothpaste is used for a variety of different things in addition to brushing teeth and freshening breath. It’s quite the handy product. In fact, our 5-year-old uses it religiously to help her make artwork in the bathroom when she’s finished using the potty and washing her hands. She’s brushed her Barbie’s teeth. She’s brushed her doll’s teeth. She’s used the blue toothpaste as a river for her doll’s kayak. She is such a creative little thing. Really, just a creative joy. We wouldn’t buy toothpaste in our house if it were not for the fact that we need it for that whole brushing thing – because it’s a mess.

However, toothpaste is actually good for things you didn’t even realize; meaning you might want to consider buying an additional tube when you go to the store for some very handy projects around the house. For instance, you can use it to help you clean your house. If you didn’t think that toothpaste was good for anything but keeping your teeth pearly white, now is a good time to pay attention to have useful it actually is in your everyday life.

Clean Your Shoes With Toothpaste

The worst thing is white tennis shoes that get dirty. I don’t wear mine anywhere but the gym, but they always manage to end up dirty and gross. I cannot even handle it. The best thing for it is to use toothpaste to help with the mess. By rubbing it onto the rubber portion of your kicks with an old toothbrush, you can clean them up perfectly. You’ll be amazed. Just be sure that if you share this information with your kids, you make sure they’re not using their annoying sibling’s toothbrushes to do the cleaning.

Get Rid Of Pimples With Toothpaste

No one likes to wake up in the morning with a zit, but it happens. I have been blessed with amazing skin as an adult but every month when it’s that fun and special time, I end up with one on my chin. When I feel it coming on, I put toothpaste on it at night. Just a small dab; and it has to be paste – not gel. It dries on there and dries it out, and I wake up in the morning with a fresh face and nothing to worry about. It’s amazing – and I’ve been doing it since I was a teenager.

Use Toothpaste As A Hand Deodorizer

We love fresh garlic in our house. It is so good for your overall health, and we just adore making most of our meals with it. However, it’s not always easy to use when it comes to keeping our hands fresh. It can linger, and no one likes hands that smell like garlic on a regular basis. If you put a little toothpaste on your hands, though, you can actually make the smell go away. Wash them with toothpaste and then rinse with water. The odor will disappear right away.

Remove Crayon Marks With Toothpaste

I don’t know about you, but I’ve learned that small children and crayons simply do not mix. They are a terrible idea, and we all know it. Unfortunately, we have a 5 and an 8-year-old who both have to use crayons on a regular basis whether for fun or for their homework, and they always manage to drop one from their seat on the stools at the bar – and one of our 2-year-old twins always manages to find it. By the time we realize it, it’s too late. Someone has colored something, and it’s not easy to get off.

We’ve learned the hard way that a Magic Eraser is best for this. However, you can also use your toothpaste to get it off of your walls. Just rub toothpaste (not gel) on the crayon marks with a soft wash cloth and watch as it begins to disappear. Rinse the mark with warm water and you will be thrilled to find that there is no more toothpaste on your walls. It’s amazing.

Clean DVDs With Toothpaste

Our kids love to watch DVDs in the car. You’d think they’d all be in great condition since the DVD player disc insert is in the front and they can’t access it; but no. Our DVDs are a mess all the time because they can’t simply listen to us tell them what movies are available. They have to look and touch and make a mess of them. The only way we can get their DVDs clean from the scratches and marks all over the back (you know the ones that cause the DVD to stop playing or skip and all the kids to freak out simultaneously since it’s always at their favorite part) is with toothpaste.

All you have to do is use a little on a cotton ball, and wipe it off with a soft cloth and water. Dry it with another soft cloth and voila, you have a clean DVD free from scratches and other marks.
