Almost eighty years ago the epic Civil War film Gone With the Wind debuted. The almost four-hour film starring Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O’Hara and Clark Gable as Rhett Butler was the biggest thing to hit the screens back in 1939.
The film cost $3.9 million to make which was, at the time, one of the biggest film budgets of all time. Over the years the movie has made quite a profit to say the least, but, when adjusted for inflation, its total earnings amount to $1.7 billion making it the top-grossing film of all time.
