Unless you have been living under a rock or off the grid for the past year, you know that Donald Trump ran for President of the United States and he won. Since he will be the President, his wife, Melania Trump is going to be the First Lady. As the First Lady, it will be her job to be the host of the White House, when she actually moves in. According to reports, she will be staying in the penthouse at the Trump Towers until her son, Barron finishes the school year. It is also her job to be an adviser to the President and she will also play a role in social activism. When asked what types of projects she had planned when he becomes the First Lady, she was very tight-lipped.
She said only that she would draw inspiration from Jackie Kennedy and that she would be traditional in her duties. When asked what charities and causes she would support, she said that it would be charities involving children and charities involving many different diseases. Melania is a gorgeous woman, therefore, it is no surprise that she was a model. She started modeling when she was just 5 years old. Over the years, she became very successful. When she was 16 years old, she was famous for doing commercials and print ads. As just a teenager, her face was very familiar to many.
She Has Lived All Over the World
It is common knowledge that Melania Trump was not born in the United States. This bothers some of the people who voted for Hilary Clinton, but that is beside the point. Melania was born in Melanija Knavs in Novo Mesto, Slovenia. Thanks to her modeling, she became very well known and she moved to Milan, Italy when she was 18 years old. She figured that it would be a way to boost her modeling career. She also lived in Paris before moving to the United States in the mid 1990’s. She became a permanent resident of our country back in 2006.
Her Wedding to Donald Was Very Expensive
The average cost of a wedding is $26,645. This is pretty reasonable unless you are going to be getting married to Donald Trump. They were married at Donald’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach Florida. The venue was a 17,000 square foot ballroom. There were many famous people at Melania’s wedding, including Star Jones, Kelly Ripa, Simon Cowell, and Barbara Walters. There were many more, just too many to name. Melania was photographed for the cover of Vogue Magazine in her wedding dress. According to the magazine, Melania’s dress was a white satin Christian Dior that was made of 300 feet of material and was embroidered with 1,500 crystal rhinestones and pearls.
The dress cost $100,000. On her finger was her 12-carat, emerald cut engagement ring, worth $105 million. She had a cake at her wedding that was 5 feet tall, weighed over 200 pounds, and was 32 inches in diameter. It was covered with over 3,000 white icing roses. According to Vogue, it was the second most expensive celebrity wedding cake, and it took over 2 months to make. Finally, the happy couple was serenaded by Billy Joel at their reception. He sang Just The Way You Are and The Lady is a Tramp. In all, the wedding cost an estimated $1 million.
She Has a College Education
Melania may have started modeling at age 5, but it wasn’t her only passion. When she was living in Slovenia, she attended the University of Ljubljana, where she studied architecture and design. According to reports, she did very well in her studies.
She is a Very Devoted Mother
Melania has always had a successful career, however, when she gave birth to her son, Barron, her life became all about him. She did an interview with Parents Magazine, where she said that she never hired a nanny to care for Barron. She has always believed that raising a child should be the responsibility of the parents. She has always supported her husband’s aspirations to be the President of the United States, but she always made sure that she was home for Barron when he needed her.
She is the Trump Decorator
Melania has taken everything that she has learned in design school and has put it to good use. The Trumps own several properties, and they were all decorated by Melania. The project that she worked the most on was the three-story penthouse in the Trump Towers where she resides with her family. She decorated her home in 24-carat gold and the finest marble that money can buy.
She Has a Voice Regarding Certain Issues
Melania often remains reserved and leaves the limelight to her husband. There are some time, however, where she has spoken her mind. During an interview with USA Today, she was asked what she thought about her husband’s plans to ban Muslims from entering the United States. She said that she didn’t agree with a complete ban, however, she believed that thorough screenings needed to be done before Muslims could get into the country. It isn’t very often, however, that she voices her opinions on our country’s issues.
When Melania Met Donald
Melania met Donald Trump at a Fashion Week party in 1998. At the time, he was there on a date with another woman. When he saw Melania, he asked her for her phone number. Since she saw him there with another woman, she didn’t think it would be right for her to give him her number. Instead, she said that she would take his. He ended up giving her all of his contact information and the rest is history.
It Was Her Choice to Stay Off the Campaign Trail
Anyone who saw Donald Trump traveling state to state campaigning to become the President of the United States knows that most of his family was always with him, except for Melania. She stated that she does not go political in public, because that is Donald’s job. She said that she is very political in her private life, and she knows everything that is going on, she just doesn’t voice her opinions. When she is by her husband’s side, she is always smiling.
She Doesn’t Always Agree With Donald
According to Melania, she is not a “yes” person. If Donald says something or does something that she doesn’t agree with, she voices her concerns. She says that they are not always at odds. There are things that she agrees with, however, if she doesn’t, she has no problem speaking up. She says that no matter who you are married to, you need to lead your own life and have your own feelings and opinions.
She is Donald’s Third Wife
While she has never been married before Donald, she is his third wife. He married his first wife, Ivana in 1977. The couple divorced when it came out that he was having an affair with Marla Maples. After their divorce, he married Marla in 1993. They remained married for only 6 years. According to Donald, Melania is his third and last wife.
She Has Graced the Covers of Magazines
Because she is gorgeous and because she is the wife of the man who ran for the President of the United States and won, she has been on the cover of some of the most popular magazines. Some of them include Vanity Fair, Glamour, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and GQ.
She is Involved in Charity Work
Melania doesn’t spend all of her time shopping and going to lunch. She uses her free time to work with a variety of charitable organizations including The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, The American Red Cross, and the Police Athletic League.
She Gave Her Son an Entire Floor
Everyone knows that the Trump family occupies the tree top floors in the Trump Towers. What you may not know is that one of those floors has been given exclusively to Barron. She says that she doesn’t spoil her son, she just wants him to have all of the space that he needs to play and be a kid. Some kids are considered lucky if they have a playroom off of their bedroom. Barron has much more than that.
She is Second Foreign Born First Lady
In 1825, Louisa Adams was the first lady, and she was the first who was not born in the U.S. Melania is the second. She is, however, the only First Lady who was not born a citizen of the United States.
She is One of the Tallest First Ladies In History
Considering she was once a model, it is obvious that Melania is tall. She stands at 5 feet, 11 inches tall. This makes her tied with Michelle Obama and Eleanor Roosevelt for the tallest First Ladies in history.
She Is Vocal About Her Hate for Bullying
Considering who her husband is, this is a surprise, but Melania has voiced many times that she is against bullying. She says that it is never okay for kids to be bullied on the playground and in school and it really is wrong when kids are bullied by people hiding behind the internet. When asked about her husband’s Twitter campaigns where he often bullied others, she stated that she told him it was wrong, but he was going to do what he wanted in the end.
Many New Yorkers Don’t Want Melania There
As mentioned earlier, Melania intends to stay in her Trump Towers Penthouse on 5th Avenue until her son, Barron finishes out the school year. If she stays, this means it will cost the taxpayers about $1 million a day in security costs to protect her and her son. Because of this, many New Yorkers don’t want her there. Over 100,000 residents so far have signed a petition that asks the Governor of New York and the city’s Mayor to refuse to pay for her protection after Donald moves to Washington.
Their petition states that this tax money should go to improvements for the city which will help all New Yorkers, not just one person. Since he was elected President, the building where Melania and her son live has been constantly surrounded by protesters. Only time will tell if the petition will make a difference or not.
She Threatened Lawsuits During Donald’s Campaign
Melania was relatively quiet when her husband was on the campaign trail, however, she became very vocal when a handful of news outlets reported that she was once an escort for hire. When the story broke, Melania threatened lawsuits. This resulted in a variety of retractions and apologies. Melania stands by the fact that she has never been a paid escort. Not when she came to the United States and not before she moved here.
She Might Be the First Lady in Name Only
Many news outlets are calling Donald Trump’s daughter, Ivanka the next First Lady. Melania is planning to stay behind in New York with her son and Ivanka and her husband are talking about moving their family to Washington. Between this and the fact that Ivanka has already met with the Vice President and that she has been very vocal in her father’s campaign, people are saying that she will handle the duties of the First Lady, and Melania will be the First Lady in name only.
There are a great deal of things that the public doesn’t know about the First Lady. One thing that we do know is that Melania makes it a bit easier for Americans who hate Donald Trump to soften up on him a little. Seeing a woman who is such a good mother and is relatively down to Earth makes her husband a bit more bearable. Time will only tell what type of First Lady she will be and how involved she will be with the issues of our country.
