How to Get Paid to Watch Your Favorite Cooking Shows With Swagbucks

Considering that nearly half of all Americans watch cooking shows at least occasionally, it seems crazy that you could actually get paid to do it, but you can. Through a site called SwagBucks you can turn something you enjoy doing into cash; simply register, watch and claim your loot.

How Does It Work?

The concept is fairly straightforward and easy to do. By completing tasks, such as watching videos, you earn points, or SwagBucks (SB). These SB can then be redeemed for gift cards at big name retailers like Amazon, Hotels.com, Walmart, Ebay, PayPal (which can be cashed out) and hundreds more. Each opportunity will tell you how many SB you can earn so you can easily decide if something is worth your time or not. 100 SwagBucks equals $1 in real money and you can cash out for as little as 300 SB. It is worth mentioning that certain gift cards do have minimums or increments; so while you may want to head to Red Lobster for a feast, you will need to reach the minimum gift card amount of $25, or 2500 SB, before you can redeem your points.

How Do You Get Started?

The first thing you will need to do is register, for free, at SwagBucks.com. Simply provide your email address and a password in order to receive an email asking you to confirm your registration. Once you click to confirm, you will be asked to choose a security question and answer to make certain your account is secure. Easy, simple and you’ve just earned your first 6 SB! You will immediately be given an opportunity to earn additional SB by:

  • Adding the SwagButton to your browser for 50 SB. The SwagButton lets you know if a site offers cash back for shopping or has any SwagBucks coupons or deals. You can also use it to receive alerts for redemption or earn more SwagBucks as you search the web.
  • Installing SwagBucks App will earn you 20 SB, and allow you to earn SB as you search the Internet
  • Referring a friend, which includes providing their email address, will earn you 10% of their SB for life
  • Letting them know how you heard about Swagbucks will earn you another easy 5 SB

Once you’re done (or you can skip the extra SB all together) it’s time to head to your homepage, kick back, watch some videos and earn a little extra money. On the left hand side of your Home Page, you will see a “Watch” link. Click on this and you will see a variety of categories listed, “Food” being one of them. Clicking on the category will bring up a page containing different channels which feature multiple videos for your viewing pleasure.

Take for example the channel “Get Your Tofu On”, which has 20 videos, each about 3 to 5 minutes long, with a commercial before each. You must watch each video on the channel in order to receive the SB, which in this case was 3 SB, or $.03.

Each channel has anywhere from 4 to 20 videos, each lasting an average of 4 to 5 minutes, for varying amounts of SB. Although not every video has a commercial preceding it, you will have to put in some serious time watching videos to make a small amount of money.

Is There More?

There are other ways to earn money on the site, aside from just watching cooking videos, if you are inclined to do so. You can shop online at various sites that offer SwagBucks and earn a set number of points for each dollar you spend there. Even better, if you care to make a donation to charity, there are various non-profits that you can donate to and, in return earn points, as well as some good Karma. You can also earn points for playing games, taking surveys and quizzes, signing up for services or trial offers and more.

What Are People Saying?

While you aren’t going to get rich by signing-up for and using SwagBucks, reviewers overwhelmingly say the site is legitimate, with timely and accurate payouts. The most common complaint is the small amount of money that can be made, although other users say with some savvy and multi-tasking, you can earn a fair amount. Users have also complained about technical glitches and poor customer service and, on SiteJabber, only 37% of reviewers gave it 4 or 5 stars out of 5.

Regardless of whether you make a fortune or a pittance on SwagBucks, you will be in good company since the website is currently ranked the 185th most popular site in the United States according to Alexa.com.
